The Munich Oktoberfest is the biggest public festival in the world.Each year, the Oktoberfest which located at the green expanse called 'Wies'n',is attended by around 6 million visitors,who drink around 5 million liters of beer and consume over 200,00 pairs of pork sausages in 16 days.The history of the Oktoberfest dates back to the 19th century.Prince Ludwig was married to Princess on 12th October 1810.The citizens of Munich wree invited to attend the festivities to celebrate the happy royal event.
Today,the 'Oktoberfest' festival offers amusements as roller coasters,circus appearances,festival parades and live brass bands.
The ceremonial opening happens at noon.The mayor arrives in afestive coach followed by a decorated horse-drawn brewer's cart.Guests,staff and the numerous brass bands are all wearing traditional costumes for the occasion.At the end of the parade the major taps the first keg of beer and shouts,"o'zapft isn !"(The keg is tapped).
